Key Stage 1
Pupils in Key Stage 1 are offered a broad and balanced learning experience based on The National Curriculum and adapted to meet the needs of our pupils. The emphasis is very much on the development of language and communication skills, gross and fine motor skills and social and emotional development. Learning through play and outdoor learning play a key role in the children’s development.
The pupils are taught in small groups with a teacher and the support of LSA’s. All lessons are differentiated to cater for the specific needs of the children. Makaton signing and symbols are used along with a wide range of resources to support and equip our pupils. We aim to make learning fun and challenging.
Our pupils have daily Literacy and Numeracy lessons and we use Read Write Inc to teach Phonics. In the afternoon we take part in a range of other subjects such as Art, DT, Computing, Geography, History, RE and Science. All Pupils are able to take part in Swimming as part of our PE and Infants 2 pupils get the opportunity to go horse riding with the RDA.
We plan and organise school trips to a range of locations linking curriculum learning in the classroom to real life experiences. Pupils also have access to soft play, sensory rooms and the adventure playground which they use throughout the week.
We maintain close contact with parents through our home/school books, regular meetings with teachers and social events.
